Abstract
University of New England students visited Tobago, in May, to participate in a four credit course entitled Ecology and Conservation of the Caribbean. Dr. Jeri Fox, UNE’s Associate Professor of Aquaculture and Aquarium Sciences, and Dr. Rich Langton, President of the Buccoo Reef Trust USA, co-taught the course, which included lectures and field exercises on a diversity of topics such as, the history, geology and geography of Trinidad & Tobago, coral and fish identification and ecology, conch fishery and conservation, mangrove and seagrass ecosystems and human development and mitigating its impact on island ecosystems.
